Mirror Stage
I am intrigued by the alarmingly elusive nature of memory and by the human instinct to try to make sense of what is going on inside our heads and in the world around us. Memory and understanding drift in and out of focus, while we struggle to claim what is just out of our reach.
I use Photoshop to generate and manipulate images which I transfer, without thought, onto canvas. I then paint into the resulting chaos, looking for accidental, recognisable shapes until parts come into focus and begin to make sense. Each image is therefore a one-off, combining the traditional with the technological, using mixed media with Epsom archival inks.
